Helping Hippos Maui 2023 - Dyed to Order
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE LISTING ABOUT DONATIONS GIVEN AND TURN AROUND TIMES.
THIS IS A DYED TO ORDER LISTING, the turn around time is about 3 weeks. Please be patient as we dye your yarn. Because this is dyed to order and for a charity, all sales are final.
Please check out separately from other items, if you're wanting the other items more quickly then we can process Helping Hippos Maui. If you order items together with this listing, the whole order will be held until Helping Hippos Maui is ready to ship.
GIVEN TO CHARITY: All of the proceeds of the sales of this colorway until 8/18/23 at 1pm EST were donated to helping people affected by the devastating fires in Maui. We raised $2,700 as a community and rounded up and donated $3000 to Samaritan's Purse. Wow! It means the world to us here in the Lolo Family to be a part of this generous community.
Proceeds means, we will cover our costs and donate the rest.
As of 8/18/23 at 1pm EST, we have capped out donations and won't be donating proceeds of the colorways anymore. But the colorway is still available for those who missed out and would like the color.
There is still a LOT of devastation going on in Maui. A lot of loss of life and slim resources. We know Samaritan's Purse is already on the scene helping and sending good. But, so much more help will be needed in the coming weeks and months. Please consider giving directly. There are so many wonderful organizations to choose from.
ABOUT HELPING HIPPOS: We started Helping Hippos in 2017 to help with the disaster relief from Hurricane Harvey. Since then, we have released a Helping Hippos colorway for natural disasters that strike the United States and given the proceeds to charity.
WHAT IS A HIPPO? A hippo colorway is a light gray yarn base with colorful speckles. If you'd like to see what Hippo Colorways look like, THIS LINK will take you to Instagram to show you examples.
WHAT WILL HELPING HIPPOS MAUI LOOK LIKE? This Hippo colorway will be our usual light gray yarn base, this year the speckles will be tropical. PHOTOS NOW POSTED!
ALL Helping Hippos have been rainbow-style colorways, as a sign of hope in the midst of disaster. Genesis 9:13 I have placed my bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
WHAT COLORS WILL COORDINATE? Elba Island, Beauty School Dropout, Blue Tourmaline, Oow! I Feel Good!, Sh Boom, Sweetness, Bumble, Material Girl, Wonka, Violet Beauregarde, Bubbles, Diamond, Dreamsicle, Buttercup, Iris, Lagoon
We have ALL of these color in our Lil Lolo (mini skeins) on Loriginal and USA DK. Some of these colors are also available on full skeins.
YARN BASE SUGGESTION: If you've never shopped with us before, our 2 most popular bases are Loriginal (fingering weight) and USA DK.

Each skein is hand dyed, they are each unique regardless of being the same colorway and name. If you are making a multi-skein item, you will want to alternate skeins.
The photos you see are just a few skeins. The skein you receive will not look exactly like this photo, as each skein is unique, but will have the same colors/style. Some skeins have more or less of each of the colors. This is the beauty of hand dyed yarn.
While I try my best to take photos to accurately represent the colors, each computer/mobile device varies in colors, if you have questions about color/photos, please ask.
Hand dyed with professional acid dyes. We wash all yarns in water several times to see that the water is running clear. Then they are washed in unscented Eucalan wool wash. Even with this process, you may still get minimal bleeding on the first few washes.
Dyed and stored in a smoke-free, dog-friendly studio.
Care: For best results, hand wash in cold water with an unscented wool wash of your choice. Lay flat to dry.
Detergent: I recommend Eucalan unscented, or another wool-specific unscented wash.
