Farm Yarn
Please, write the colorway and quantities in your order notes.
The plan is to ship by the end of May. I'll work in these skeins with our normal orders and dye schedule.
We have 2 types of wool in our 2022 Sheep to Skein Project!! We have Tunis and Rambouillet. They are both sheepy. The Tunis is a medium wool, I would consider it similar to BFL if you've ever felt that. The Rambouillet is a little softer, a medium/fine. I don't really have something I could compare it to for you. Definitely not as soft as Merino, but not not quite as toothy as BFL. All skeins have a little VM in them, but they are pretty clean. We had them pass through the combs extra times to make sure they were as clean as we could possibly get them without using chemicals.
Before we ship them, we will wash them and hang them to dry. OR we will dye them for you! The dye will be lighter than you would normally see on any superwash yarn. Not only is the wool more oily (lanolin content), but it's also not stripped of its natural follicles so the dye doesn't penetrate as deeply. (Similar to our own hair).
The natural color of the yarn is a cream, a little richer than our Naked yarn if you've ever purchased naked skeins from us before.
YARN SPECS 115g/4oz. and is approximately 184 yards, 2 ply, and they have thick and thin places in the spinning. The ply is a little looser than the yarn you're used to, so watch your stitches. See below for gauge, etc.
GAUGE AND SWATCHING
I got 14 wraps per inch. This is AFTER washing, it did bloom significantly. According to spinners we would say this is a DK weight, BUT...see my swatching below.
Swatch on Size 6 needles
Before Blocking - 20 sts/4"
After Blocking - 18 sts/4"
The swatch puts it in the Worsted Weight realm!
I did a second swatch on Size 7 needles because I felt like the Size 6 was slightly tight, this would be a thicker sweater with not a lot of drape.
Swatch on Size 7 needles
After Blocking - 16sts/4"
PHOTOS
In the photos, you'll see yarn that I washed in Eucalan and hung to dry. The exact same process we use after we dye yarn. We let the yarn soak in the basin with 1 tbsp of Eucalan + 8 skeins of yarn. The water covers the yarn by at least an inch so the yarn is free flowing. Then it's hung up to dry naturally. So the yarn is fully "bloomed" it is in its fluffiest state after we are done with it and before we ship it to you.
VEGETABLE MATTER
I did not try to remove any VM during any of the processes, including knitting. I didn't pick anything out. So what you see is about right for the little bits you'll probably see in your skein. It's not much, but I want to be transparent of what you're buying.

The yarn will be dyed in the same batch at the same time.
I dye in extremely small batches. Some colorways I dye only 1 skein at a time, so if you are making a large project I highly recommend alternating skeins to get an even color throughout the project.
DYED TO ORDER: These skeins are dyed especially for you. All sales are final on Dyed to Order.
Hand dyed with professional acid dyes. We wash all yarns in water several times to see that the water is running clear. Then they are washed in unscented Eucalan wool wash. Even with this process, you may still get minimal bleeding on the first few washes.
Dyed and stored in a smoke-free, dog-friendly studio.
Care: For best results, hand wash in cold water with an unscented wool wash of your choice. Lay flat to dry.
Detergent: I recommend Eucalan unscented, or another wool-specific unscented wash.
